Criminal Charges in US

In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, former mayor Chad Alan-Carr, 48, is charged with felony counts of sexual abuse of children and criminal solicitation to commit sexual abuse of children. He also faces a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors, according to Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett. Between 2011 and 2013, Carr solicited "inappropriate material" from at least one teen boy. Carr is being held on $100,000 bail and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 20.

Priest Indicted in Louisiana

Korey LaVergne, a 37-year-old Roman Catholic priest in the Lafayette diocese in Louisiana, has been formally charged with three counts of felony indecent behavior with a juvenile. Court documents charge LaVergne with "willfully, unlawfully, knowingly and intentionally [committing] lewd or lascivious acts upon [the] juvenile" – or in the presence of the minor – on or about January 1, 2024. LaVergne's attorneys filed a document stating that he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Legal Repercussions

LaVergne faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines for each count. In Louisiana, indecent behavior with a juvenile is defined as any lewd or lascivious act in the presence of a child under 17. A pretrial hearing in LaVergne's case is tentatively scheduled for June 12.
