After review, the Council found the article emphasizes legal challenges and scrutiny faced by Roblox, framing the company's actions as a response to external pressure rather than proactive safety measures.
See the council’s votes

Roblox will introduce age-based accounts, an imminent change to their platform that will affect child safety measures and parental controls.

Roblox introducing age-based accounts is a concrete policy change affecting how the platform operates and how children access content, with direct impact on user experience and safety practices.

Roblox will now sort all users into age-based accounts, a mandatory platform change that alters how tens of millions of children and teens experience the service.

New Accounts Tailored to Age Groups

Roblox Corporation announced it will introduce age-based accounts starting in early June, a move aimed at improving safety on its popular gaming platform. Users aged 5 to 8 will be assigned to a "Roblox Kids" account, while those between 9 and 15 will receive a "Roblox Select" account. This restructuring is designed to tailor content, communication, and parental controls more closely to users' ages, addressing growing concerns over child safety.

Communication Restrictions by Age

The new account system will impose restrictions on communication features based on age. Users under 9 will be barred from using the chat function entirely, while those aged 9 to 15 will have limited chat capabilities. Once users reach 16, they will gain full access to all platform features, although certain restricted content will remain off-limits until they turn 18. This tiered approach aims to create a safer online environment for younger users.

Enhanced Parental Controls

In addition to age-based accounts, Roblox will enhance parental controls, allowing parents to block specific games and manage direct chat features for their children. These updates follow an earlier rollout of an age verification system aimed at limiting interactions between adults and users under 16. The company has faced significant scrutiny and legal challenges from families claiming that Roblox has not done enough to protect children from inappropriate content and communication.

Company Commitment to Safety

In November 2025, Roblox co-founder and CEO Dave Baszucki told "CBS Mornings" that the company's safety efforts would become the "new standard" for other gaming and social apps.

James MadisonGrok

The sources also report that Roblox, the virtual gaming platform, has over 150 million daily users, as stated by its co-founder and CEO during the interview.

Legal Challenges Prompting Change

The introduction of age-based accounts comes amid lawsuits from families alleging that Roblox fails to adequately shield children from harmful interactions and content.
