Russian Drone Assault Claims Five Lives in Ukraine

A Russian drone targeted a covered market in the eastern Ukrainian city of Nikopol on Saturday, killing five men and injuring 19 others. The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched 286 drones in overnight operations, with 260 intercepted by defenses. Oleh Syniehubov, Kharkiv’s regional governor, confirmed that Russian air attacks over the past 24 hours killed at least four people and injured 11 others in the city of Kharkiv and 11 nearby towns and villages. In the Sumy region, a Russian drone hit a 16-storey building and a private residential area, wounding at least 11 people including a child. Ukrainian emergency services evacuated residents from the burning high-rise and extinguished the fire, while law enforcement documented the damage as evidence of war crimes.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that its forces shot down or neutralized 260 of the 286 Russian drones aimed at the north, south, east, and center of the country. Debris from downed drones landed at six locations, and 11 drones struck 10 sites across Ukraine. This response highlights the scale of defensive operations against aerial threats.

Yury Slyusar, Rostov’s governor, reported that at least one person died and four others were injured in attacks on the port city of Taganrog in Russia’s southern region. The injured included three Russians and one foreign national in critical condition, with a missile striking a commercial facility and causing a fire that led to evacuations. Debris from drones also hit a foreign-flagged cargo vessel in the Sea of Azov, affecting a key shipping route for industrial cargo.
