New Leadership at NATO Supplier
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni removed Roberto Cingolani as chief executive of Leonardo SpA, replacing him with Lorenzo Mariani. Leonardo is a state-backed aerospace and defense contractor that supplies weapons systems and equipment to NATO allies. The leadership change puts new hands on the controls of a major supplier to Western military operations at a time when European defense spending has accelerated.
Energy Chiefs Retain Their Posts
While Meloni ousted Cingolani, she renewed the terms of two other state-company leaders for another three years. Claudio Descalzi continues as CEO of Eni SpA, the energy firm, and Flavio Cattaneo remains at the helm of Enel SpA, the power utility. The selective nature of the personnel moves suggests Meloni's government found performance or strategic alignment issues specific to Leonardo's leadership rather than a wholesale purge across state enterprises.
