After review, the Council found the article leans left due to its emphasis on AAP's accusations of coercion by central agencies and the negative public reaction to the defection, potentially framing the BJP in an unfavorable light.

Raghav Chadha, 6 other AAP MPs join BJP in India. This is a shift in political alignment.

Seven AAP MPs, including Raghav Chadha, joined the BJP in India. This is a concrete political shift affecting party composition and government alignment in a major democracy.

Seven Aam Aadmi Party MPs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in India, shifting political alliances and potentially affecting legislative outcomes and party dynamics.

Defection Rocks AAP's Rajya Sabha Presence

Raghav Chadha and six other Aam Aadmi Party MPs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, reducing AAP's seats in the upper house from 10 to 3. Chadha said that more than two-thirds of AAP's Rajya Sabha members supported the move and that procedural formalities were complete.

AAP Leaders Demand MP Disqualification

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh announced he would write to the Rajya Sabha chairman seeking the disqualification of the seven defected MPs, including Chadha. Singh argued that the anti-defection law does not recognize splits or mergers in the Rajya Sabha, even with a two-thirds majority.

Accusations Fly Over Defection Tactics

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of betraying Punjab, a state governed by AAP and facing assembly elections next year. AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation pressured AAP leaders to defect.

Chadha Faces Online Backlash

Raghav Chadha lost over 1 million Instagram followers after announcing his switch to the BJP, with users flooding his posts with hate comments. Followers expressed disappointment, calling the move a betrayal of Chadha's earlier image as a youth icon addressing everyday issues.

Electoral Stakes Rise in Punjab

The defection occurred ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in Punjab, an AAP stronghold, which could weaken the party's position in the state. AAP reacted strongly, with Punjab's chief minister seeking time from the President to discuss recalling the defected MPs.
